What's the difference?

Posted by charles at August 27, 2006

In a world where cheap, easy, and convenient is commonplace, often the difference will be in how you treat your customers. When they contact you, do you know who they are? Do you know what others on your team have promised them? Do you know what kind of experience they have had with you so far and what you need to do to make it better?

If you can manage to deliver a personal and relevant experience to everyone who deals with you, you will matter more to them, and thus become their preferred brand.

Paying attention to your customers is the future of brand marketing.

Here here! Another killer differentiator for the future I think will be the "whole product". The world has shifted to such an extreme level of outsourcing (think Dell) that no-one organization is completely responsible for the product they sell you any more(like for example, Apple). Everyone has at least one other company to blame for the [widget|board|drivers|rebate|compatibility] that went wrong. We live in a world of "it's not MY fault - I can't help you." Ugh!

That's a good point. I think it all comes back to who the customer can trust to be there when things go wrong. The group that does the best job in that area wins the business.
