Speed 2.0

One of the first things we’ve done is to implement support for multiple selection. Now you can select as many emails as you want and close, reassign, or spam them all at once. We didn’t want to just do a half job here though. We’ve made working with emails using multiple select super fast. These operations complete instantly instead of taking a second or so to respond like it does now.

People have been asking for multiple select for a while and I’m excited that we can finally deliver something that we can be proud of.

Also, a few months ago we quietly deployed an enhancement to Mailroom that marked a major technical advancement for us. Instead of waiting for you to click on an email to load it from the server, we used a technique called “precaching” to download your email from our server in the background while you do other things. This means when you select a conversation you can view it instantly instead of waiting for it to load.

This advancement made reading conversatons in Mailroom so much faster, we decided to apply the same technique everywhere else. In other words, Mailroom 2 will be a full JavaScript application. You will only need to wait for the Mailroom web page to load once. After that, everything will be done in the background.

Although we won’t be 100% there when we launch, our eventualy goal is to make Mailroom so snappy, you’ll forget your talking to a server over the internet altogether.

These are just a few of the enhancements coming in MR 2. There’s a lot more. I’ll write more about it soon.

Guys, You released a potentially brilliant service / app, but it never lived up to its expectations. A lot of the upcoming features never showed up, the soon to be released stuff doesn't happen. It's 19 days ago since you promises us to write more soon. Please convince me of your future and your future power, now i won't advise anyone to start using your service because your future doesn't feel good.

Hi Erwin: I'm sorry we haven't written more about our status. The truth is I am handling a lot of the code for our next release and I've been pretty heads down writing code instead of blog entries. I'll do my best to post more information for you later this week and next. -Charles
